Read for the Record

Last week we celebrated "Read for the Record." We made history by reading this book with over 100 1st graders at LES!

"Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats is a wonderful tale of a little boy's adventurous day in the snow. Every member of our class had a leadership role in this project by either being a story teller or heading up the end of the story craft.

The 1st graders seemed to really love our visit.

Taking Charge

Students took charge of math last week as they designed and carried out individual experiments. Each student had to test and graph 10 classmates in order to get a variety of data. Some of the experiments were...
How long can you stare at a friend without laughing?

How long will it take you to kick a soccer ball around cones?

How long will it take you to run 3 laps around the playground?

How many push-ups can you do in a minute?

And a class favorite... how long can you Hoola-hoop?

Does This Look Like a Math Lesson To You????

We love AMSTI Math!! In this lesson, students used timers to see how long they could balance on one foot. We graphed the data and then analyzed it while learning how to find the mean, median, mode and range. Math really CAN be FUN!

Outside Snack

We enjoyed an extra long snack break after the Math Benchmark. Talladega County Schools gives this assessment to all students in grades 3 - 10 to see how students are progressing in math. I was very proud of the results!

The Incredible Edible Cell

We are studying plant and animal cells in science. We culminated this unit by making The Incredible Edible Cell using food items. This is always a favorite activity of my students and this class was no different! Each food item represented a part of the cell and we reviewed what its job was and how it contributed to the cell.

I used our Document Camera to show students how to create the cell.

Gold Star Of The Week

Congratulations, Kody!!!

Grandparent's Day!!

Grandparent's Day was very special! Our grandparents shared stories from what school was like when they were little, and we shared poems written just for them. Thank you to all of our wonderful grandparents! We love you!!
